Program Overview: About View Map
The interactive map is designed to assist in accessing data from a specific sampling location(s) investigated by the Camp Navajo Installation Restoration Program and Open Burn/Open Detonation Area Closure Program. Each sampling point is identified by a LOC_NAME, or identifying number. To get the LOC_NAME for sampling location(s), see the instructions on Finding a LOC_NAME.
The area covered by the View Map includes Camp Navajo and bordering communities. Tools and data layers are provided to give various options for viewing the information contained in the map. These options include tools for zooming in or out, moving to different areas of the map and identifying sampling sites. Due to the abundance of information contained on the map, certain features are only displayed when the appropriate data layer is selected. The data layer options include the locations of all groundwater/surface water and/or soil/sediment sampling points. The points shown in these layers indicate sampling points. Many sampling points are "non detect," meaning no contaminants were detected by the laboratory tests for the various analytes. If contaminants were detected in a sample, the type of contaminant and whether it is a background contaminant or a contaminant being investigated at Camp Navajo can be determined by using the map tools to zoom in and identify a location. Clicking on a contaminant's LOC_NAME or identifying number pulls up a summary report of all chemicals detected.
For the fastest results, use smaller, more focused searches. Looking at large areas, all at once, takes additional time and the "Identify" feature can only show results for 25 locations at a time. The following features are designed to aid in searches for specific data:
Tool Icons
These are located to the left of the map and help focus on and identify specific areas of the View Map.
Zoom In Tool- Click on this icon and drag the cursor over the area of the map to be enlarged.
Zoom Out Tool- Click on this icon and click on map to zoom out.
Zoom To Location Tool- Click on this icon and choose either the LOC_NAME or the X and Y coordinates of a point of interest and click the Go to Map button. The map will zoom in and display the location you specified.
Recenter Map Tool- Click on this icon, and then click the cursor near one of the edges of the map to see an adjacent area of the map.
Identify Tool- Click on this icon and drag the cursor over a sampling location or locations, to identify the LOC_NAME for that sampling point. Clicking on the LOC_NAME will display the sampling results for this location. Note: only analytes detected at this sampling point will be shown.
